It was a last minute decision to bring our 3 month old puppy on a holiday with us. A week prior, we had searched for various destination and hotels that are dog friendly. Most of those that were available over the long weekend were very expensive. Therefore, we ended up settling for Lang Hoose, Georgetown which was within our budget. We called up Lang Hoose to make sure that they indeed welcome dogs. Once confirmed, we booked the last available room.
Lang Hoose, Georgetown is strategically located along Beach Street / Lebuh Pantai in Penang. Within walking distance are Komtar, Prangin Mall, Penang Street Art and the Chew Jetty, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Public parking is available along Beach Street and we were lucky to be able to find parking just right outside of Lang Hoose on a busy weekend.
The official check-in time is at 2:00 pm and we arrived at Lang Noose, Georgetown at 5 pm. Although it does not look like much from the outside, the decor on the inside has a nice antique setting with different vintage collections on display. During check-in, we were given an access card and briefed that the main door will close at 6 pm. In order to get in and out after 6 pm, we will need to use the access card. We were then told that curtains were being fixed in our room and we had to wait 30 minutes before our room will be ready. This was a little disappointing for us as we were tired since we had driven all the way from KL and wanted to get some rest before heading out for dinner.
We had booked a Duplex room with a shared bathroom for 2 nights. Up the staircase to the duplex, was an open air rooftop terrace and a parquet flooring hallway which leads to the shared bathroom and our room. Entering the door to the room, there is a small sitting area and a wooden staircase to the loft. A king sized bed is placed up in the loft with a dressing table and an antique standing fan. The duplex setting was nice and cozy and the bed was comfortable. However, we realized later that a wooden setting may not be suitable especially with a pet dog or if you are a light sleeper. We can actually hear the other family walking in the hallway, up the wooden staircase to their loft as well as noises the kids made in the other room. The air-conditioning unit in our room was not cold although already set to the lowest temperature. We had to use the antique standing fan as well which made it bearable for our 2 nights stay.
Although Lang Hoose has an indoor cafe, their staff is only present between 9 am – 6 pm. Items on their menu is also slightly expensive considering there are other restaurants nearby at much cheaper prices. The cafe at the rooftop terrace seems to be closed for good and not maintained. It used to have a nice outdoor setting at the terrace (from their FB photo) but not anymore. The bathroom shared between 2 duplex units is huge and comfortable. However, on our 2nd night, we actually ran out of toilet paper. And since the staff was not around after 6 pm, there was no way for us to request for more. Bikes are available for rent here at RM10 per day on a first come, first serve basis.
Review: Lang Hoose, Georgetown
1. Bathrooms to be checked and equipped with the necessary everyday prior to staff going off-duty
2. Air-condition in the duplex unit needs to be changed or serviced
It was a comfortable stay for us and we will still recommend this place despite some inconveniences experienced during our stay. For a dog friendly stay, this is definitely worth the value considering its location.
